External Features

Birds have feathers for flight as well as insulation.

Birds have down feathers, these are soft and fluffy. Down feathers are found on young, but adults lies closet to body for insulation.

Contour feathers have a streamline shape. Insulation comes from the bottom part of the feather, similar to Down.

Feathers also help in camouflaging the bird while in trees, etc..

Feathers also help to identify the birds species and the sex.
